Recredentialing with Headway: What to Expect Every Three Years

Last reviewed: October 30, 2026
Credentialing is not a one-time event. Insurance carriers require providers to be re-verified on a regular cycle, and Headway runs this process for you. According to Headway’s Help Center, you will need to recredential about every three years, and it takes about 20–30 minutes to complete.
Completing it on time matters: if you miss the deadline, your in-network status, and with it your clients’ insurance coverage, can be interrupted.

When will I be asked?
Headway notifies you when your recredentialing is due. Watch your email and the dashboard in Sigmund. Don’t wait until the last week, because a missing document can add time.
Recredentialing checklist
Before you start, update and gather:
- License(s): current license numbers and expiry dates for every state
- Malpractice insurance: current certificate of insurance with dates and limits
- CAQH ProView: log in and re-attest so your profile is current
- NPI details: make sure your practice address and taxonomy are up to date in NPPES
- Practice locations: add or remove office addresses
- Work history: add any new positions since you last credentialed
- Disclosures: answer attestation questions honestly, including any new claims or board actions
- Prescribers: current DEA and any state CDS registrations
Tips to avoid interruptions
- Set a calendar reminder for when your license and malpractice policy renew. An expired document is the number one cause of delays.
- Keep CAQH current year-round. Most carriers ask you to re-attest every 120 days.
- Update Sigmund Settings whenever something changes, not just at recredentialing time.
- Respond quickly to any requests from Headway’s credentialing team.
Adding a new state at the same time
Adding a state is a separate process. Use the “Get credentialed” button on the Insurance Status page. Initial approval in a new state typically takes 3 weeks to 4 months. See our credentialing guide.
